Copyright law protects original works of authorship that are in tangible form. Literary, musical, dramatic and artistic works are examples of products that can be copyrighted when in tangible form. A dance cannot be copyrighted unless the choreography is written down. You also cannot copyright facts, ideas, basic names or titles of works. Once you create a tangible and original work, your copyright is automatic. One thing you can do to strengthen your copyright is include your name, the word ''copyright'' and the year it was published. If you want additional security, you can file your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office for a fee.
